La Guaira Teenager Dies by Suicide Following Dispute with Mother
La Guaira, Venezuela – A 16-year-old girl was found dead Tuesday night in the Petit Medina sector of Urimare parish, Zamora municipality, La Guaira state, after an argument with her mother during a birthday celebration.
According to a police report cited by Vargas Reports, the incident stemmed from the mother referencing another woman’s criticism of her daughter as a means of correction. The teenager reportedly became distressed and retreated to her room.
Approximately an hour later, the mother discovered the front door locked and, with the assistance of a neighbor, entered the residence through the back. she found her daughter unresponsive and suspended.
Emergency services transported the teenager to the Alfredo Machado Popular Clinic in Catia La Mar around 10:00 pm, where medical personnel confirmed her death.
A notebook discovered at the scene contained a final message from the teenager, reading: “Sometimes you try to be good when in reality you are not, it is indeed very challenging to see how everyone judges you when you just need to be understood. Many times, instead of a scolding, a hug is needed.“
The Scientific, Criminal and Criminal Inquiry Corps (Cicpc) has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
The tragedy highlights a growing concern among specialized organizations and children’s rights advocates regarding rising rates of depression and self-destructive behavior among Venezuelan adolescents. These issues are often linked to challenging family dynamics, social pressures, and limited access to psychological support.
