Microsoft Signals Premium Approach for Next-Gen Xbox
OSLO, NORWAY – May 16, 2024 – Microsoft is positioning its next Xbox console as a “very premium, very high-end, curated experience,” according to recent statements from Xbox CEO Sarah bond. The comments, made during an interview with Mashable regarding the newly launched ROG Ally X handheld, suggest a significant shift in strategy for the company’s console division.
Bond indicated the forthcoming console will offer a distinctly refined experience, hinting that features seen in the Ally X – specifically the ability to seamlessly switch between an xbox interface and Windows – are indicative of the direction Microsoft is taking. The Ally X allows users to purchase and play games from various storefronts, including Steam and the Epic Games Store, alongside Xbox titles.
This approach could perhaps grant access to a broader game libary than currently available on Xbox, leveraging the extensive catalog of PC games. It also decouples the console’s success from exclusive game sales, relying on the established PC gaming market.
Though, this premium experience is expected to come at a cost. Reports suggest the next-generation Xbox will be expensive, with Microsoft anticipating unique features and high performance will justify the price tag.
