Güstrow, Germany – Investigators in teh case of 8-year-old Fabian M., whose body was discovered near a pond outside Güstrow, are focusing on the circumstances surrounding the revelation and the behavior of the person who found him: his fatherS 29-year-old ex-girlfriend. The fact the boy was not buried suggests the perpetrator acted hastily, according to a leading German profiler.
Fabian was last seen after being instructed to remain home until his mother returned from work, according to Nordkurier reporting. The initial hours of a missing person case are critical, emphasizing the need to thoroughly examine the home surroundings for clues, according to experienced profiler Axel Petermann.
Fabian’s body was found at a secluded pond, a location possibly known to the perpetrator, who likely “avoid[s] risks and choose[s] places that are familiar to them,” Petermann explained. Traces of burns where also found at the site, potentially indicating an attempt to destroy evidence, though whether the pond was the site of the crime remains unclear.
Investigators are scrutinizing why Fabian’s father’s ex-girlfriend was in the remote location when she discovered the body. “The person who finds the body is always of interest. You have to clarify why they were there and whether their explanations are plausible,” Petermann stated.
Petermann, a former murder investigator with nearly 40 years of experience in German law enforcement, notes that a perpetrator’s post-crime behavior varies depending on motive and personality, ranging from suppression to guilt. no arrests have been made as of Monday, according to the public prosecutor.
