Hong⁣ Kong:‌ Two Crew Members Dead After Cargo Plane ‍Leaves⁤ Runway

Hong Kong International Airport is investigating after a cargo⁣ plane skidded ‍off Runway 07L and into the sea early Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of two ‍crew members. The incident⁣ occurred as ‍the plane was attempting⁤ to exit the runway, prompting an ⁢immediate response from rescue teams.

The accident raises questions about safety protocols at ⁢one of the world’s busiest airports, though authorities maintain the airport ⁣was not at fault.⁣ An investigation⁣ is underway to determine the cause of the incident, with officials not ruling out a criminal probe.

Steven Yiu,who‌ leads airport operations at the Hong ‍Kong Airport ⁢Authority, stated ⁢at a press conference that‍ the flight path taken was “not a normal route.” He emphasized that illuminated ⁤signs are⁢ in place to guide planes exiting the runway, adhering to international standards, and⁢ there is currently no‍ evidence to suggest these signs where not functioning. ‌

Officials stressed that correct instructions were given to the cargo plane. yiu also clarified that a patrol car near the ⁢runway was ⁤outside‌ the perimeter fence and did not contribute to a runway intrusion. The investigation continues⁣ as authorities work to understand the sequence of ⁣events leading to ⁣the ‌accident.
