EDINBORO, Pa. – The California University of Pennsylvania women’s volleyball team dropped a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West match to Edinboro University,3-1 (25-17,25-17,22-25,25-18),on Saturday evening.The loss marks the Vulcans‘ fourth in their last six contests, all occurring on the road.
California (15-6 2-4 PSAC West) battled through a challenging first two sets, falling behind early against a strong Edinboro attack. While the Vulcans rallied to claim the third set, they were unable to sustain the momentum, ultimately succumbing to the Fighting Scots in the fourth. This result impacts california’s standing in the competitive PSAC West, as they strive for playoff positioning. The team will look to rebound with a crucial road match against Seton Hill on Tuesday.
Senior Elisa Rugiero spearheaded the Vulcans’ offense with nine kills on 22 attempts, achieving a .273 hitting percentage. Junior Sarah Stephenson and freshman Olivia Weiseman each contributed eight kills to the effort. Directing the attack, senior Adrianna Favata and sophomore Morgan Johnson recorded 18 and 17 assists, respectively.
Defensively, Weiseman led the team with 13 digs, while senior Caroline Mercer added 10.Edinboro established a dominant presence in the first set, jumping to an 11-2 advantage and hitting.457 to secure a 25-17 victory. They continued their strong performance in the second set, closing with an 8-3 run for another 25-17 win.
California found its rhythm in the third set, posting 15 kills with only three attack errors to take a 25-22 win. Though, Edinboro controlled the fourth set from start to finish, registering 20 kills to close out the match with a 25-18 victory.
The Vulcans will continue their road trip on Tuesday, October 21, with a 6 p.m. match against Seton Hill in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.
