Repeat Offender Receives Prison Sentence After Appearing Drunk to Police Appointment
Douville, France – A 60-year-old man was sentenced to 11 months in prison Thursday after appearing intoxicated for a scheduled police appointment, just one week after being found near his vehicle with a dog on his stomach and unable to complete a roadside breathalyzer test. the case highlights a recurring pattern of alcohol-related offenses for the retiree, who has struggled with addiction since age 16.
the incident began on October 7th in Douville when alerted by a passerby, gendarmes discovered the man beside his car without a valid driver’s license. Unable to provide a breath sample due to his level of intoxication, a subsequent blood test revealed an alcohol concentration of 2.60 grams per liter of blood. The man was summoned to the local gendarmerie a week later, but arrived for his appointment while again under the influence, registering 0.94 grams per liter - still exceeding the legal limit for driving.
During his October 16th appearance before the bergerac criminal court, the defendant claimed limited recollection of the initial incident, stating, “I didn’t drink much.” He further asserted a daily consumption of “only seven beers a day, no strong drinks.” Though, investigators revealed a history of alcohol abuse and four prior convictions for similar offenses within the last eight years. The court ultimately resolute the severity of his ongoing addiction and repeated offenses warranted a custodial sentence.
