Downtown boise will host a second “No Kings” protest this Saturday, October 18, at teh Idaho State Capitol, continuing a nationwide movement sparked by concerns over actions taken by the Trump governance and perceived abandonment of constitutional principles by Idaho’s representatives. The rally is scheduled to begin at 11:45 a.m., with speakers-including local leaders-taking the stage at 12:30 p.m.
Following a similar gathering that drew thousands this summer, the protest aims to mobilize opposition to what organizers describe as dictatorial tendencies. the event is a partnership between Idaho 50501, Indivisible, and the American Civil Liberties Union, reflecting a broad coalition united by a commitment to upholding the U.S. constitution. “We say ‘No Kings’ as we believe in America’s founding principles,” explained Sonya Christensen, a spokesperson for Idaho 50501. “We are appalled at how our current Idaho representatives are abandoning those principles, and we are here to stand up for the Constitution of the United States of America.”
Organizers emphasize a core tenet of the “no Kings” movement: nonviolent action. Participants are urged to demonstrate lawfully and responsibly. The protest represents a sustained effort to hold elected officials accountable and defend democratic norms, with organizers anticipating continued demonstrations provided that they believe those norms are threatened.
