UNMC ⁤Workshop to Address Rising Safety Concerns in Healthcare

OMAHA, Neb. ​- ⁣ A workshop focused on bolstering physical safety and mental wellbeing in healthcare workplaces will be held ‌November 18 by the​ UNMC Collage ⁢of Nursing. “Cultivating safe and ⁣Supportive Environments: Physical Safety and Mental Health in‍ Healthcare”‌ is designed for⁤ healthcare professionals and offers no-cost continuing education credits.

The⁣ event, running from ⁣8:30⁤ a.m. to 3 p.m. at the UNMC Truhlsen Campus Events Center​ in Omaha,⁢ will also be accessible online via Zoom. ‌

The workshop will begin ⁣with a presentation⁢ from Dr. Cynthia Clark, a tenured professor emeritus at Boise‍ State University, founder of Civility Matters, a registered nurse, and award-winning scholar and author.Dr. Clark will discuss⁤ “Creating Cultures of Civility, Community & Connection in Healthcare,” focusing‍ on the fundamentals of building safe and ⁢supportive work environments.

Following lunch, a panel of public safety experts will address challenges and solutions related to⁤ safety in both urban ⁤and rural ⁣settings. ⁢Panelists include Chief Jeremy Kinsey of the Blair Police Department, Lieutenant Jeremy Thorson of the⁤ Nebraska state Patrol, and Bill Smith, public safety coordinator for UNMC and the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Organizers emphasize the workshop’s practical⁤ focus, aiming to ⁢produce actionable plans for participants.
