Mantua Municipality Hosts Congolese Doctor, Honors Fallen Ambassador
Mantua, Italy – The Municipality of Mantua welcomed Dr. De-Joseph Kakisingi, a gynecologist and director of the Saint-Vincent hospital center in Bukavu, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Salvatore Attanasio, father of the late Italian Ambassador Luca Attanasio, to the council room today. the visit is part of the “Adopt a People” project and a broader initiative to promote peace and understanding.
Dr. Kakisingi, representing the south kivu province of the DRC, and Mr. Attanasio – whose son was tragically killed in the DRC in 2021 – met with citizens at the parish of San Barnaba, addressing the complex situation in South Kivu, a region embroiled in conflict over its rich mineral resources.
Councilors Alessandra Riccadonna and Andrea Caprini, along with Gloria Costani, Pierpaolo Parogni, Mariangela Remondini, and Colibrì Association manager Veronica Barini, were present for the greeting.
Dr. Kakisingi was lauded for successfully combining medical expertise with compassion, providing quality care and crucial support to women facing gynecological complications resulting from sexual violence.
The events are part of the “An Autumn of Peace 2025” calendar, a municipal project collaborating with local associations – including Mantova per la Pace, Strongvilla, and Bag Magazine – to foster a culture of peace. Further exploration of the issues will be offered through the theater performance “Évolué” by Samuel Hili, scheduled for Thursday, October 16th, at 8:30 PM at the Teatro Magro in Cittadella.
