Olivier Giroud has received a broadcast offer to cover the 2026 FIFA World Cup, signaling a potential transition to football commentary for the recently retired international star. The 39-year-old, who concluded his France career after Euro 2024, was honored at the Stade de France in March prior to a Nations League match against Croatia and has continued to field questions about a possible return to play, particularly following his successful stint with LOSC.
While Giroud remains focused on staying involved in football, his immediate future appears to lie off the pitch. He revealed in an interview with L’Équipe that he’s been approached for a consulting role with a French media outlet for the 2026 tournament, following a previous offer from an English channel during the 2022 World Cup when he was still hoping to compete as a player. “Wait, I still hope to play it. (Laughs.),” he told the English channel at the time.
Giroud indicated a desire to “transmit” his knowlege and experience, and sees television work as a natural first step.He also shared that his post-playing career will include managing existing investments in funds - including those managed by former teammate Blaise Matuidi – and real estate.
