Makkah, Saudi Arabia – Saudi Arabia has announced plans to construct the “King Salman Gate,” a massive multi-purpose development adjacent to the grand Mosque in Makkah. The project, unveiled Wednesday, October 15, 2025, will span 12 million square meters and aims to enhance access to the holy site and improve the pilgrimage experience.
The development will incorporate residential, hospitality, commercial, and cultural spaces, alongside capacity for 900,000 worshippers indoors and outdoors, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
“This project marks an important milestone in the development of Makkah and its central region, making it a global benchmark in modern urban planning,” SPA reported on Thursday, October 16, 2025.
The King Salman Gate is designed to blend Islamic architectural heritage with modern urban design,and will include the restoration of approximately 19,000 square meters of ancient sites. The project will also be integrated with a public transportation network to facilitate movement for pilgrims and visitors.
Developed by RUA alharam AlMakki Company, the King Salman Gate is a key component of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 economic diversification plan, projected to create over 300,000 jobs by 2036. Designs shared by X account Inside the Haramain indicate the gate’s location within the Grand Mosque area.
The initiative is intended to “contribute to increasing access to the Grand Mosque, improving the quality of services, and enriching the journey of every visitor, in line with the objectives of the Pilgrimage Experience Program,” SPA added.
