Telekom Customers receive Exclusive Fritzbox 7590 Firmware Update
A new Fritzbox 7590 firmware update, version 8.21, is rolling out-but only to customers of Deutsche Telekom. The update, delivered since October 10th, has surfaced on a refurbished Fritzbox 7590 offered through Amazon.de, sparking confusion as AVM, the manufacturer, has made no public declaration regarding the release.
The limited rollout and lack of official communication have raised questions among Fritzbox users. While seemingly a minor maintainance update, its exclusive distribution to Telekom subscribers suggests a network adaptation specific to the provider. This selective update process highlights the complex relationship between hardware manufacturers, internet service providers, and end-user device management.
according to Teltariff, AVM confirmed the update is a firmware adjustment primarily intended to adapt the network for Telekom customers. The reason for restricting the update to the Fritzbox 7590 model, and even then not all owners of the device, remains unclear.
Some users have received notifications via email, while others have found the update available directly through their Fritzbox user interface. AVM suggests that repeated checks within the device’s settings might potentially be necessary for those who haven’t yet received the update.
