Mavericks Secure Long-Term Future with Coach Jason Kidd
DALLAS, TX – The Dallas Mavericks announced today a multi-year contract extension with head coach Jason Kidd, ensuring the continued leadership of the team that reached the 2024 NBA Finals. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The extension comes after the New York Knicks reportedly expressed strong interest in Kidd to fill their head coaching vacancy, ultimately hiring Mike Brown. Dallas frist began extension talks with Kidd during last year’s playoffs, demonstrating a clear commitment to retaining their coach.
“We are deeply grateful to Coach Kidd for his leadership, focus and positive energy,” said Mavericks owner Patrick Dumont in a statement. “He possesses all the qualities our association looks for in a leader, and we are thrilled to have him with us for a long time.I am confident that he will work in a thoughtful and principled manner to bring Dallas another championship.”
During his four seasons with the Mavericks, Coach Kidd has compiled a record of 179 wins and 149 losses. He guided the team to the 2022 Western Conference Finals and a runner-up finish in the 2024 NBA Finals.
Despite a 10th-place finish in the western Conference during the 2024-25 season, requiring a play-in tournament appearance, the Mavericks saw potential in Kidd’s leadership. They lost to the Memphis grizzlies in the 8th seeding game, ending their season prematurely.
“I am grateful to the owner and general manager Nico Harrison for their belief in me and the trust we have built as we work together to build a team that Dallas will be proud of,” Coach Kidd stated. “It’s a special thing to have the possibility to continue to lead the team that drafted me and the team that won a championship during my career. I look forward to the future and will work hard to bring home another trophy.”
