Van de Donk‘s International Future Remains Unclear Following Conversation with New National Coach
The future of Dutch international Danielle van de Donk remains uncertain despite a “good conversation” with newly appointed national coach Andries Jonker, according to reports. Van de Donk publicly expressed doubts about continuing her international career following the Netherlands‘ elimination from the European Championship in Switzerland.
Jonker confirmed last month that he and van de Donk had met for coffee to discuss her future, but the outcome of that discussion has not been disclosed. Currently sidelined with an injury, Van de Donk is expected to make her debut for london City Lionesses in a few weeks, with “all options still on the table” regarding her international status. The situation unfolds as other veteran players, Sherida Spitse and Renate Jansen, have recently announced their retirements from international play after discussions with Jonker. Spitse will play one final match against Canada on October 28, concluding a career of 247 international appearances.
