A 70-year-old man died in Ceiba Tuesday morning after a medical emergency caused him to lose control of his vehicle, police reported.The driver was en route to Atlantis Hospital for a scheduled dialysis appointment when the incident occurred.
The victim,a long-term kidney patient,experienced a health issue while driving,leading to the crash,according to Captain Elvis Zeno Santiago,director of the Highway Patrol Bureau. This incident underscores the critical transportation challenges faced by individuals requiring regular, life-sustaining medical treatments like dialysis, particularly in areas with limited access to specialized care. The Ceiba Highway Division, along with the on-duty prosecutor, is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. Agent Xavier Velázquez Montañez is leading the inquiry.
