paris: 85-Year-Old Man Seriously Injured in Unprovoked Street Attack, Suspect in Custody
PARIS – An 85-year-old man is recovering in hospital after a brutal assault in Paris’s 8th arrondissement Sunday evening. the attack, which occurred on the Rue de Rome near the Saint-Lazare station, left the victim unconscious with serious injuries.
Police responded to the scene after a passerby shouted, “Catch him! he hit an old man!” as the attacker fled. Officers from the Ile-de-France networks brigade quickly apprehended the suspect following a short chase.
During the arrest, police discovered 22 grams of cannabis – equivalent to approximately five bags - on the suspect. Authorities confirmed the individual is known to police for prior acts of violence and drug use.
The octogenarian was treated at the scene by firefighters for multiple facial contusions and head trauma. He was transported to a local hospital where his condition was initially critical. However, officials confirmed late Sunday that he is now out of immediate danger.
