Chapter 11 Film Highlights Lifeguard & Surf Instructor Andrew JacobsonS Global Pursuit of Waves
VENTURA, CALIFORNIA – A new Chapter 11 TV edit spotlights Andrew Jacobson, a Los Angeles County lifeguard and Malibu surf instructor, whose dedication to finding world-class waves exists alongside a grounded, blue-collar lifestyle. The film, directed by Hunter Martinez, documents Jacobson’s surfing over the past year, featuring standout sessions in California, Ireland, Tahiti, and Fiji.
Jacobson’s recent experiences included a memorable, yet harrowing, session at a challenging right slab near the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland. “It’s a really scary goat trail,” Jacobson recounted. “And the wind picked up so strong, it was insane. It was just Aritz Aranburu and me. There’s one part of the trail that’s really critical. I don’t want to over exaggerate, but if you fall, you’re done. I basically got stuck walking back up, and Aritz helped me get out.” The incident occurred seven months prior to the film’s release and left a lasting impression.
Beyond ireland, Jacobson revisited Cloudbreak in Fiji for the first time since a 2018 knee injury and experienced a month of waves across the Emerald Isle.”It was eye-opening for me,” Jacobson said. “That trip fully gave me more love for surfing and more drive to keep exploring new places.”
The Chapter 11 team, led by Dane Reynolds, recognized Jacobson’s unique story – a surfer committed to exploration and high-performance surfing while maintaining a regular job. Jacobson receives board support from Channel Islands and sponsorship from Vissla, but primarily funds his lifestyle through his work.
As the video description notes, Jacobson is “definitely weird, overly strategic and will paddle himself over the ledge into some really heavy waves around the globe.” The edit captures these traits with Chapter 11’s signature deadpan and self-deprecating humor.
