Afghanistan Seeks Indian Investment, Wagah Border Trade Route

Afghanistan Seeks ⁣Indian Investment in Minerals, Pushes for Wagah Border Opening

New Delhi: ⁣Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister amir⁤ Khan Muttaqi has formally invited India to invest‍ in the country’s mineral resources, alongside opportunities⁣ in agriculture and sports. He also requested the opening of the ​Wagah ‌border, describing it ‌as the “fastest trade route” between India and ‍Afghanistan,⁢ during a press⁢ conference in new Delhi⁢ on Sunday.

Muttaqi stated he met‌ with ‍India’s External Affairs Minister‌ S. Jaishankar ‍to discuss ⁢economy, trade, and other issues. During the meeting, Jaishankar announced the upgrading of India’s mission in Kabul to Embassy​ level, with diplomats from Kabul expected to arrive in New Delhi.

“We also invited the Indian side to invest, particularly in minerals, agriculture, and sports,” Muttaqi said. ​He further highlighted discussions regarding the Chabahar port.

The Afghan Foreign Minister also addressed concerns regarding the absence of women ‍journalists at⁤ his initial press conference, attributing it to a “technical issue”​ and a short notice invitation list, clarifying it was not a matter‍ of gender⁣ discrimination. He afterward held ‍a second press interaction inviting women⁣ journalists to ​attend.
