Rountree Recounts Disorienting Blow in Walk Fight, Compares Experience to UFC Video Game
COLOGNE – Light heavyweight contender Khalil Rountree described a jarring disorientation during his recent battle with michał “Walk” Włodarczyk, stating a left hook landed with such force it felt akin to a glitch in a UFC video game. Rountree’s comments offer insight into the split-second reactions and mental fortitude required at the highest levels of mixed martial arts, and highlight the ongoing process of learning and adaptation for the rising star.
The fight, which took place earlier this year, saw Rountree weathering an early storm from Włodarczyk. He explained the impact of a notably powerful strike, saying, “One left hook hit me in my eye and it was a very hard blow. When you play UFC video game, sometimes you see the character start flashing in red and you have to pull it back, you have to download it back to normal when you play the game.” Despite the notable impact, Rountree managed to compose himself and continue fighting, though under sustained pressure.
Rountree acknowledged the need to regroup mid-fight. ”So I tried to save myself, organize ideas and make the right decisions. And all this while putting pressure on me,” he said. He views the experience as a valuable learning opportunity, focusing on how to react to similar situations in the future. “Now I can go back to training and work on how I will react when something like this happens again. What decisions will I make? It’s just about learning and overall progress.”
