Hamas Mobilizes Forces in Gaza Amid Governance Concerns
Gaza – Hamas has recalled approximately 7,000 members of it’s security forces to reassert control over areas of Gaza recently vacated by Israeli troops, appointing five new governors with military backgrounds to oversee operations, local sources report. The mobilization order, issued via phone calls and text messages, called on fighters to “cleanse Gaza of outlaws and collaborators with Israel” and report to designated locations within 24 hours using official codes.
Armed Hamas units have reportedly deployed across several districts, some in civilian clothes and others in the blue uniforms of the gaza police. The move comes amid growing uncertainty regarding governance in Gaza following the end of the current conflict – a key issue that could complicate future negotiations, including those outlined in US President Donald Trump’s plan which calls for hamas to disarm.
A Hamas official, speaking from abroad, stated, “We cannot leave Gaza at the mercy of thieves and militias backed by the Israeli occupation. Our weapons are legitimate, they exist to resist occupation and they will remain as long as the occupation continues.”
A retired Palestinian security officer who previously served with the Palestinian Authority in Gaza expressed fears of renewed internal violence, stating, “Hamas hasn’t changed. It still believes that weapons and violence are the only means to keep its movement alive.”
The developments have sparked concern among Gazans already impacted by years of conflict. The report was published at 13:48 BST, according to BBC News, and reported by Gaza correspondent Rushdi Abualouf.
