Apple Watch Gains New Sleep Score and Cycle Tracking in watchOS 26
Cupertino, CA – Apple is enhancing the health capabilities of its Apple Watch with the release of watchOS 26, introducing a new sleep score feature and detailed sleep cycle tracking. The updates, arriving alongside iOS 26, aim to provide users with a more comprehensive and easily understandable view of their sleep health.
For years, the Apple Watch has collected sleep data, but interpreting that information could be complex. watchOS 26 simplifies this with a consolidated sleep score, offering a speedy assessment of overall sleep quality. This comes as sleep tracking gains prominence, particularly with features like sleep apnea detection added in recent updates. The new tools are designed to empower users to make informed decisions about their sleep habits and overall well-being.
The sleep score is calculated based on three key metrics: duration, bedtime consistency, and sleep interruptions. Duration is weighted the highest, with a potential score of 50 points, while bedtime consistency contributes up to 30 points, and interruptions are assessed for up to 20 points. A perfect score is 100, and the Apple Watch will categorize a user’s sleep as ’Excellent,’ ‘High,’ ‘OK,’ or ‘Low’ based on their total score.
Users can access their sleep score within the Sleep app on watchOS 26, or through the Health app on iOS 26. Thes features are available now as part of the watchOS 26 and iOS 26 updates.
