A potent nor’easter is forecast to bring heavy rainfall, strong winds, and potential coastal flooding to a large swath of the U.S. East Coast this weekend. The storm is expected to impact areas from eastern North Carolina to central New Jersey, with the most significant effects anticipated in North Carolina and New Jersey.
The approaching system threatens localized flash flooding across affected areas as several inches of rain are predicted from Friday through early next week. Parts of the Outer Banks of North Carolina and southern Virginia could receive up to 6 inches of rainfall within a few days, particularly if the storm stalls. Coastal regions, including the Outer Banks and nearby areas, are also bracing for a multi-day coastal flooding event, with tide levels nearing monthly highs later this week and into the weekend.
Winds will increase along the coast starting Friday, peaking late Saturday and early Sunday. The Outer Banks may experiance gusts up to 80 km/h, while eastern North Carolina could see winds between 32 and 64 km/h.
Following the storm’s departure or dissipation, a temporary break in the weather is possible. however, forecasters predict another unusual heat wave will arrive in the region by the end of next week.
