Leonardo DiCaprio in Talks to Star in Heat 2 as val Kilmer‘s Character
Leonardo dicaprio is reportedly in negotiations to join the highly anticipated sequel to Michael Mann’s 1995 crime epic, Heat. According to deadline, dicaprio is being considered for the role of Chris Shiherlis, the accomplice to Robert De Niro’s Neil McCauley, a part originally played by Val Kilmer.
Heat 2 is based on the novel of the same name co-authored by Mann and Meg Gardiner, which expands the universe of the original film with both a prequel and sequel narrative. The story will explore events before and after the iconic 1995 film’s shootout, with portions of the action taking place in 1988. Kilmer, who passed away in April 2025, memorably originated the role of Shiherlis. Production is slated to begin in 2026,with Amazon Studios producing the film.
Currently, DiCaprio stars in One Battle After Another, released in September 2025, which is performing well at the box office in both France and the United States.
