Buenos Aires, Argentina - Investigative journalist Hugo Alconada mon will be awarded an honorary doctorate from Maimonides University next Tuesday, October 14, in recognition of his distinguished career in journalism and academic contributions. The ceremony will take place at 6:30 PM in the Aula Magna of the university, located at Hidalgo 775.
The honor acknowledges Alconada Mon’s impactful work, including his investigative books Topos: The Real history of the Russian Spies That Took Buenos aires as a Base of Operations, Iron Hunting, and The City of Frogs, as well as his role as a lawyer and member of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), which received a pulitzer Prize in 2017 for the Panama Papers investigation. alconada mon’s recognition comes at a time of increasing challenges for journalism, as he recently addressed at the inaugural “Urgent Meeting” festival, emphasizing “Journalism as a public service.” During the Maimonides University event,he will deliver a speech titled “The challenges of being a journalist in the time of mandriles,carpinchos and ia.”
