Ukraine Strikes Major Oil Terminal in Crimea, Crippling Russian Fuel supply
Feodosia, Crimea – A Ukrainian drone attack on the night of October 6th destroyed a significant oil terminal in Feodosia, occupied Crimea, triggering a massive fire visible for tens of kilometers, according to reports from the Telegram channel Crimean Wind. The terminal, one of the largest fuel reservoirs on the peninsula with a capacity of up to 250,000 tons,is a key component of Russia’s logistical network supporting its military operations.
The attack involved an estimated 251 Ukrainian drones targeting strategic locations, with 40 reportedly hitting Crimea, according to Russian sources. Following the explosions, Crimean Wind reported a “Great Fire” erupting in the area. Additional explosions were also reported near Saki and Duck airports.
This strike represents a significant blow to Russia’s ability to supply its forces and comes as Ukraine intensifies its campaign targeting Russian oil infrastructure. The Financial Times reports that, since August, Ukraine has struck at least 16 of Russia’s 38 refineries. Consequently, Russian oil and product exports have fallen to their lowest levels as 2020.
The impact is already being felt in Crimea, where approximately 50% of petrol stations have ceased gasoline sales due to supply shortages, as reported by the Russian daily Kommersant via the Kyiv Autonomous. The southern federal circuit is notably affected, based on data from 17,000 petrol stations. A state of emergency remains in effect in the Russian-occupied area following the October 6th attack.
