Bouanga Ties Messi in MLS Golden Boot Race as LAFC Defeats Atlanta United
Los Angeles FC secured a 1-0 victory over Atlanta United on day 38 of Major League Soccer, thanks to a late goal from Gabonese forward Denis Bouanga. The goal brings Bouanga to 24 goals on the season, tying him with Lionel Messi at the top of the MLS scoring table.
Bouanga has been in exceptional form as the arrival of Heung-min Son, scoring 10 goals in September and earning MLS Player of the Month honors. “I always trust that we can win,” Bouanga told apple TV after the match. “I thank God for this opportunity.”
He expressed his ambition to win the Golden Boot, stating, “I am happy to tie Messi I have a last chance in front of Colorado to win the Gold Boot for my son and my family.”
The 30-year-old attacker is the first player in American first Division history to score at least 20 goals in three consecutive seasons. Despite a less-than-stellar overall performance against an eliminated Atlanta United, Bouanga capitalized on a rebound in the 86th minute, finishing between the goalkeeper’s legs to secure the win.
Both Messi and Bouanga are expected to be absent from their teams’ next games due to the upcoming FIFA international break. The Golden Boot winner will be determined on the final day of the season,with LAFC facing Colorado rapids and inter miami playing Nashville.
