Oregon officials Protest Federal Deployment of California national Guard
Portland, Ore. – Oregon Governor Tina Kotek, Attorney General Dan rayfield, adn Portland Mayor Keith Wilson have voiced strong opposition to the recent deployment of approximately 101 California National Guard members to oregon. Officials state the deployment occurred without prior notification and possibly circumvents a recent federal court ruling. Additional troops are expected to arrive Sunday.
Governor Kotek asserted that military intervention is unneeded, stating, “There is no insurrection in Portland. No threat to national security.” She underscored the importance of allowing peaceful demonstrations against actions by the federal administration she deems unlawful.
Attorney General Rayfield criticized the deployment as lacking factual basis or legal authority, accusing the President of attempting to deploy military forces in American cities without justification. He affirmed that legal action is being pursued to hold the administration accountable and safeguard the rights of Oregon residents.
Mayor Wilson pointed to a federal judge’s decision that previously blocked the mobilization of oregon National Guard troops, characterizing the current federal actions as “unlawful and unjustified.” He called on federal leadership to adhere to the court’s ruling and halt any deployments that contradict it, reaffirming Portland’s dedication to peaceful protest and due process.
U.S. Senator Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) also expressed his disapproval via social media, questioning the administration’s understanding of the court’s decision that found its initial justification for deployment ”simply untethered to the facts.”
