US Treasury Confirms Draft Design of $1 Coin ‍Featuring Donald Trump

The US Treasury has confirmed the authenticity of draft designs ‌for a $1 coin commemorating the ⁤nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026, which feature images of former President ⁤Donald Trump⁤ on both sides. The designs, circulating ⁤online, have sparked discussion regarding US ⁣laws governing coin imagery.

The potential coin‍ is part ⁢of a series authorized by the Circulating collectible coin Redesign Act, allowing for special⁢ $1 coins to celebrate America’s semiquincentennial. However, US code stipulates that no⁣ coin⁤ can bear the image of a living former or current President,⁢ or of ‌any deceased ‍former President during the two-year period following their death. The law also prohibits head and shoulders portraits or busts of any person, living or dead, on the reverse of the ‌coins.

A Treasury spokesperson told CNN, “While a final $1 coin design⁣ has not‌ yet been selected⁣ to commemorate ‌the United States’ semiquincentennial, this first draft reflects well⁣ the enduring spirit of our country‌ and⁣ democracy, even in the face of immense obstacles.” The spokesperson added that ⁢they “look forward ‍to sharing more‍ soon.”

White⁣ House Press secretary ⁤karoline Leavitt, when‍ asked if Trump had⁢ seen the draft images, responded, “I’m not sure if he’s seen it, but I’m ⁣sure he’ll love it.”
