Rural Economies Thrive as China’s Autumn Harvests Boost Red Date and Crayfish Industries
Yanchuan County, Shaanxi Province & Qianjiang City, Hubei Province – A combination of favorable growing conditions, strategic industrial growth, and robust demand are driving a prosperous autumn harvest for rural communities across China, exemplified by booming red date yields in Shaanxi and record crayfish trading volumes in Hubei. These successes demonstrate a growing national trend of leveraging local specialties to fuel rural revitalization.
In Yanchuan County, the jujube orchard contracted by villager Yang Xinmin is expected to yield 1,100 kilograms per mu (approximately 0.067 hectares) this year. This success is part of a broader county-wide initiative to extend the agricultural industrial chain, creating a “dual-wheel drive” model centered around traditional red dates and the increasingly popular jujube bud tea. This year, Yanchuan County’s total red date planting area reached 150,000 mu, with an estimated total output of 38,000 tons.
meanwhile, in Hubei Province, “Chinese Shrimp Valley” in Qianjiang City – the nation’s largest crayfish trading center – is experiencing peak sales. During the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, the center saw an average daily trading volume of nearly 300 tons. Merchants began operations as early as three o’clock in the morning, rapidly sorting, packing, and dispatching fresh crayfish to consumers nationwide.
To maintain freshness and meet demand, cold chain logistics providers are working extended hours, and companies like Xiagu Cloud Cang have implemented “one-piece delivery” models to expedite order fulfillment. These developments highlight a concerted effort to build efficient supply chains and capitalize on the growing consumer appetite for regional agricultural products, contributing to a new pattern of rural revitalization across China.
