UNLV Women’s Tennis Players Fall Short in Mountain West Fall Qualifier Quarterfinals
Las Vegas – UNLV’s hopes for a singles champion at the Mountain West Fall Qualifier ended Friday as both Rebels reaching the quarterfinal round were defeated at the Darling Tennis Center. Veronika Kluch and Hudson Hawkins each won their Round of 16 matches but could not secure victories in the subsequent quarterfinals.
The Mountain West Fall Qualifier serves as a crucial stepping stone for student-athletes aiming for national recognition. This tournament, now in its second year under a new format, determines which singles player and doubles team from the conference will advance to the ITA Conference Masters tournament – a key pathway to qualifying for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships.
Eighth-seeded Kluch began the day with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 triumph over Fresno State’s Paulina Monteal. Though, her run was halted by top-seeded Amahee Charrier of UNR, who won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0. Hawkins also secured a Round of 16 win, defeating Marlene Foerster of UNR 6-3, 7-6 (5), before falling to Boise State‘s Masa Viriant 6-4, 6-2.
Additionally, UNLV’s Nikol mircheva lost a close match in the Round of 16 to Arianna Counseling of Air Force, 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (11-9). The tournament continues through October 5th.
