UNLVWomen’s Tennis Players Fall Short in‍ Mountain West Fall Qualifier Quarterfinals

Las Vegas – UNLV’s hopes for a singles champion at the Mountain West Fall‍ Qualifier ended Friday‍ as both⁢ Rebels reaching the​ quarterfinal round ⁢were defeated at ‍the ‍Darling⁢ Tennis Center. Veronika Kluch and Hudson Hawkins each won their Round of ‍16 matches but could not ⁢secure victories in the subsequent quarterfinals.

The Mountain West Fall Qualifier serves as a ‌crucial stepping stone for student-athletes ‍aiming for national recognition. This tournament, now in its second year under a ‌new ⁣format, ‌determines which singles player and⁢ doubles team⁣ from the conference will advance to the ITA Conference Masters tournament – a key pathway to qualifying for the NCAA Singles ‍and Doubles Championships.

Eighth-seeded Kluch began the day with a ⁢6-2, 3-6,⁣ 6-2 triumph over Fresno State’s Paulina Monteal. Though, her ⁢run⁣ was halted by top-seeded Amahee Charrier of UNR, who won in ⁣straight sets, ⁢6-2, 6-0. Hawkins ‌also secured a Round of 16 win, defeating Marlene Foerster of ‍UNR 6-3, 7-6 (5), before‌ falling to Boise State‘s Masa Viriant 6-4, 6-2.

Additionally, UNLV’s Nikol mircheva ‌lost a close match in the Round of 16 to Arianna Counseling of​ Air Force, 6-2, ‍1-6, ‍7-6 (11-9). The tournament continues‍ through October 5th.
