Tyrese Gibson Faces Animal Cruelty Charge Following Dog Mauling

Fulton County, GA – Actor Tyrese Gibson has been booked on a charge of ​animal cruelty ⁢following a dog mauling that injured a ‌woman ⁤in Atlanta on Wednesday, according to a police report. The ⁣incident involved⁢ several of gibson’s Cane⁣ Corso ⁤dogs, a breed known for its protective instincts.

The woman was‌ walking her dog when she was attacked‌ by‍ Gibson’s dogs, ‌sustaining injuries requiring hospitalization. Police had received prior reports of Gibson’s dogs running‍ loose in the neighborhood, with at least five instances documented in‌ recent‌ months. Gibson was issued a ‍warning on September 7 and a notice regarding a special⁤ permit required for owning more​ than 10 dogs, though‌ the total ​number of⁢ dogs owned by Gibson ⁢remains unclear.

gibson ⁤was ⁤out of town when the attack⁢ occured, his attorney Gabe Banks stated in a ‌post on Gibson’s Instagram account. Banks said Gibson “accepts⁤ full duty for his⁢ dogs” and ‌has ‌as rehomed ​two of them and found “safe and loving homes” for thier ⁣three puppies.

“After nearly 40 years of being a passionate dog lover… my dogs have only ever been treated as family,” Gibson ⁢said‍ in⁢ a seperate Instagram ‍post. ⁢”They’ve never been​ trained to harm, never spent⁢ a single day in attack or protection training, and they’ve​ grown up playing with kids and smaller dogs in my home.That’s why ​this⁣ incident has left me shocked,⁣ devastated, and heartbroken for the family affected.”

A search warrant was executed at Gibson’s home⁤ the day after the attack, but he and the dogs were not present.

The‌ american Kennel Club describes the Cane Corso as “smart, ⁤trainable, and of noble bearing,”⁢ but emphasizes that “responsible ⁣breeding and early socialization with people and other dogs is vital” for the ⁣breed, which is⁤ known as a guardian dog.
