Edu Manga debuted with Palmeiras in 1985, quickly establishing himself as a dynamic force on the left side of midfield. He gained recognition for his ability to score crucial goals, notably in matches against rival teams São Paulo and Corinthians. His talent earned him ten appearances for the Brazilian national team between 1987 and 1989.
Though Palmeiras fell short in the 1986 paulista final against Inter de Limeira,Manga remained a vital part of the squad even after the arrival of Neto in 1989. Later that year, he was transferred to the Mexican league, where he achieved idol status playing for América.
He returned to Brazil in 1992 on loan to Corinthians, reuniting with Neto, but his performance did not replicate his earlier success. In 17 games, he failed to score, with his most notable contribution coming in a victory over Botafogo de Ribeirão.
