Quentin tarantino’s Kill Bill Re-Cut to Hit Cinemas as Four-Hour Epic
Quentin Tarantino‘s groundbreaking action saga Kill Bill is returning to the big screen in a single, restored version. Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair, combining Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003) and Kill Bill: Volume 2 (2004), will be shown in select theaters beginning December 5th, featuring both 70mm and 35mm film prints. The re-cut also includes a previously unseen seven-and-a-half minute animated sequence.
Originally conceived and filmed as one feature, Kill Bill was split into two volumes due to it’s extensive runtime. The new version removes the end credits of Volume 1 and the opening recap of Volume 2, presenting a seamless narrative.
“I wrote it and realized it [the saga] like a single film – and I’m so happy to give followers to see him as a single film,” Tarantino stated in a press release.”The best way to see Kill Bill: the Whole Bloody Affair is in the cinema, in glorious 70 mm or 35 mm. Blood and guts on the big screen, in all their splendor!”
The two Kill Bill films originally grossed over $330 million US dollars ($461 million) worldwide upon their initial release, six months apart in October 2003 and April 2004.Tarantino previously screened The Whole Bloody Affair at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival, though it was shown out of competition.
As of today, Lionsgate has not confirmed whether the film will be released outside of the United States, including in Canada.
