Shops, restaurants vandalized in many cities to protest Israel’s flotilla interception

Breaking ‍News: Protests Erupt Globally as Activists Detained⁢ in Gaza Flotilla Interception;⁤ Vandalism ⁤Reported ‌in Multiple Cities

Demonstrations⁢ have erupted ⁣in cities worldwide following Israel’s interception ‍of the Global Sumud Flotilla ⁤attempting‌ to breach‌ the maritime blockade of Hamas-ruled Gaza on october 2, 2025. Reports‌ indicate vandalism targeting shops and restaurants in numerous locations as part of the protests.

the United Nations ⁢Human ⁣Rights Office stated‍ the interception widens Israel’s blockade of ‌Gaza, which the ⁣UN considers illegal. “As the⁤ occupying power, ⁣Israel must ensure‌ food and medical supplies‌ for ‌the population to the fullest extent of the means available,⁢ or to agree⁤ to and facilitate impartial humanitarian relief schemes, delivered rapidly and without ‍hindrance,” spokesperson Thameen Al-Kheetan said in an email to ⁢Reuters. Al-Kheetan also ⁣called‍ for⁣ Israel to ‌respect the rights of those detained, including their ⁣right to challenge the legality of their detention.

Hamas condemned the interception as a “crime of piracy and ⁤maritime terrorism against civilians,” urging⁢ “all defenders of freedom in the ⁢world” to denounce it.⁣ The ⁢terror group asserted the ⁢interception “in international waters, ⁤as well ⁢as the arrest of activists and journalists” aboard the ships “constitutes a treacherous act of aggression… which adds to⁣ the dark record of crimes committed” by Israel.

The Palestinian Authority’s Foreign ‌ministry similarly condemned the⁣ interception, claiming Israel has no authority over palestinian “territorial waters,” ‌including those off the Gaza⁣ Strip.

The interception occurs ⁢amid significant international pressure on Israel stemming from‌ its ongoing ⁣war in Gaza, which began on October 7,2023,when Hamas-led ‍terrorists invaded Israel, killing approximately ‌1,200 people and taking 251 hostages. As of late 2025, Hamas continues⁤ to hold 48 hostages.

The ⁢conflict has triggered a humanitarian ‍crisis in Gaza, resulting in widespread displacement. The Hamas-run ⁢Gaza health ministry reports over 66,000‌ people in ‍the Strip have been killed‌ or are presumed dead in the fighting, a figure that ‌remains unverified and does not distinguish between civilian⁢ and combatant casualties. Israel claims to have ⁤killed over⁤ 22,000⁢ combatants in battle as ⁢of August, and an additional 1,600⁢ terrorists during the initial October 7 attack.

Israel⁣ maintains its commitment to minimizing civilian fatalities and alleges that Hamas deliberately uses civilians as human shields,⁤ operating ‍from civilian areas⁣ such as homes, hospitals, schools, and mosques.
