Young Thug recently expressed regret that he and teh late Rich Homie Quan never reconciled their differences. The rapper shared his sentiments during a livestream interview with Adin Ross on Wednesday (october 1), reflecting on his former collaborator’s passing.
The public falling out between Young Thug and Rich Homie Quan, once central figures in Birdman’s Rich Gang collective, had remained unresolved for years. Their strained relationship, stemming from Quan’s desire to pursue a solo career in 2015, culminated in a period of silence. Now, following Quan’s death from an accidental drug overdose on September 5, 2024, Thug has publicly voiced his wish for a different outcome. this revelation underscores the lasting impact of unresolved conflicts within the music industry and the personal toll they can take, especially in the wake of tragedy.
Thugger, speaking around the 56:27 mark of the interview, offered a simple “R.I.P., man, Rich Homie Quan.” He then added, “We don’t speak on the dead. R.I.P. the boy Quan. I wish we could have made amends before he died. I wish we could have made amends before he died. But he passed away.”
The duo rose to prominence as the core of Rich Gang in the mid-2010s, achieving success with their 2014 hit, “Lifestyle.” Though, tensions surfaced the following year when Quan announced his intention to focus on his individual artistry. By May 2017, the two were no longer communicating. Despite the rift, Quan indicated a willingness to collaborate with Thug again in a 2019 interview with Atlanta’s Hot 107.9.
Adding a layer of complexity to their history, former YSL affiliate Kenneth “Lil Woody” Copeland testified in August 2024 that he and an accomplice fired upon a barbershop owned by Quan’s father in September 2014, allegedly “to send a message.” Quan later characterized Copeland’s account of the shooting, in which his father sustained four gunshot wounds, as an exaggeration.
