Owners of Villa Featured in Jul’s “Moulaga” Music Video Seek €106 Million in Damages
The owners of a luxury villa in the var region of France are pursuing legal action seeking €106 million in compensation from those involved in the production and distribution of rapper Jul’s hit song “Moulaga.” The claim, first reported by The Informed, stems from the use of their property in the song’s music video, filmed five years after the song’s release.
The villa owners state they were unaware a music video shoot would take place during the rental period and that they did not consent to the commercial use of their property. they also report experiencing a consistent influx of fans and curious onlookers visiting the villa as the video’s release.
The lawsuit targets Google France (owner of YouTube), Homelly - the luxury villa rental platform through which the property was rented – and Noon Midi Production, the record label behind “Moulaga.” The owners have demanded Google remove the “Moulaga” video from YouTube, threatening a penalty of €100,000 per day of continued publication.
An initial legal attempt against Google France was deemed “inadmissible” by the Toulon court, prompting the owners to launch a new legal procedure against Google Ireland, the location of the company’s headquarters. This aspect of the case remains ongoing.
Nice Morning reports that the €100 million sought from Homelly and Noon Midi Production is calculated based on the number of views the “Moulaga” clip has accumulated online. The song was a meaningful success, achieving diamond disc certification within months of its release, and currently boasts over 210 million views.
