Nagoya, Japan – Fumiya Kosemura, a 37-year-old elementary school teacher, pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges of distributing child pornography through social media platforms. The admission came during the first hearing of his case at the Nagoya District court, marking a significant advancement in a series of related arrests across Japan.
Kosemura’s admission and Charges
“The charges are correct, and I’m very sorry,” Kosemura stated in court. He is currently employed at a public elementary school in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture. The indictment includes charges of voyeurism and indecent assault, stemming from actions taken between October 2024 and April 2024.
Connection to Other Cases and Online Network
Prosecutors revealed that Kosemura connected with Yuji Moriyama, a 42-year-old teacher from Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, through online communities sharing similar interests. Moriyama, who had reportedly engaged in voyeuristic behavior for approximately a decade, invited Kosemura and others to a private messaging application in August 2024.
Within this closed group, members allegedly shared illicit video content. The indictment details Kosemura’s filming of a 7-year-old girl’s underwear at a facility in Kanagawa Prefecture, and subsequent distribution of the footage between January and February of this year.
Further Allegations and Scope of Abuse
Beyond the initial charges, Kosemura is accused of engaging in obscene acts with an 8-year-old girl and recording scenes of six victims, including the aforementioned girl, while they were changing clothes. These recordings were allegedly intended for the production of juvenile pornography.
widespread investigation and Arrests
Kosemura and Moriyama are among six teachers arrested in connection with a growing number of child pornography offenses uncovered in Japan. To date, four of the six have been formally indicted. This case highlights a disturbing trend and has prompted increased scrutiny of online activity among educators.
