Stanford Baseball Well Represented in the 2025 MLB Postseason
A strong Cardinal presence will be felt throughout the 2025 MLB Postseason, as several Stanford University baseball alumni are poised to contribute to their teams’ playoff runs. From key players on wild card contenders to front office personnel shaping postseason strategies, Stanford’s impact on Major League baseball is clearly visible as October baseball begins.
This year’s postseason features a notable contingent of former Stanford players, reflecting the program’s continued success in developing talent for the professional ranks. The Dodgers, Cubs, Tigers, Phillies, and Yankees all boast connections to Stanford’s baseball legacy, with players and executives playing critical roles as they pursue championship aspirations.
The Los Angeles Dodgers, NL West champions for the 12th time in 13 seasons, will rely on infielder Edman, the reigning NLCS MVP, as they begin their playoff journey against the Cincinnati Reds in the Wild Card round. The Chicago Cubs, returning to the postseason for the first time since 2020, will feature Hoerner, who played 156 games this season, hitting .297 with seven home runs and 61 RBI,as they face the San Diego Padres.
Detroit Tigers manager Hinch will lead his team into a Wild Card series against the Cleveland Guardians, seeking to build on last year’s success and potentially return the franchise to the World Series stage for the first time since 2012. Philadelphia Phillies General Manager Fuld is currently pursuing his MBA, with plans to transition to the role of President of Buisness Operations upon his graduation in 2026.
Even a late-season roster move couldn’t keep Stanford alum Slater from being part of a postseason team. Traded from the San Francisco Giants to the New York Yankees at the trade deadline, Slater suffered a hamstring injury shortly after joining the club, and was ultimately left off New York’s Wild Card roster.
