Galaxy Ring Battery Swelling Forces tech Creator to Emergency Room

A Samsung Galaxy Ring caused its owner a harrowing experience, ‌swelling to⁢ the point ⁢it required medical intervention to remove and ‍prompting⁣ a vow to discontinue ⁤use of connected rings. Tech content creator zoneoftech experienced the incident while ‍traveling, ultimately being denied boarding on a flight and directed to a hospital.

The incident highlights potential safety concerns with the nascent connected ring ‍market, though Samsung⁣ has not yet ⁤commented on the issue and no other‌ similar cases have been publicly reported. The swelling battery poses risks⁣ of fire and explosion, underscoring the dangers of attempting self-repair with substances ⁤like water and soap – methods ZoneofTech reportedly tried unsuccessfully. This event raises ‌questions⁤ about the ⁢durability and safety protocols for wearable technology ⁢containing lithium-ion batteries, and could impact consumer confidence as the product category expands.

zoneoftech ‌initially attempted to remove the swollen ring independently, even resorting to water and‌ soap, a ‌practice ⁢strongly discouraged ‌due to the increased risk of ⁢fire or explosion with damaged lithium-ion batteries. According to ZoneofTech,⁤ this attempt “Even⁢ more inflated the battery.”

While at an airport on 2024/09/26, airline staff prevented ZoneofTech from ⁢flying and insisted on immediate medical attention. Medical professionals were⁤ ultimately required to safely extract the deformed Galaxy Ring.

ZoneofTech has stated they will “Never” wear ⁣a connected ring‌ again. As of 2024/09/26, this appears to⁣ be an isolated ‌incident, and is not currently escalating to a widespread issue comparable to the 2016 Samsung Galaxy Note 7⁤ recall.
