Illinois State’s valenti Named MVC Goalkeeper of the Week for Second Straight Week
ST. LOUIS, MO – Illinois State redshirt sophomore Madi Valenti has been recognized as the Missouri Valley Conference goalkeeper of the Week, the league office announced today, September 29th. This marks the second consecutive week Valenti has earned the honor, a feat not achieved by a Redbird since kate Del Fava in 2019.
Valenti’s consistent performance is a key factor in Illinois State‘s recent success. The redbirds have now had a player earn a weekly MVC award for five weeks running – their longest such streak since 2019.
The standout goalkeeper secured her 10th career shutout in a recent draw,placing her seventh in Illinois State program history for total shutouts. She followed that up with an remarkable seven-save performance in a 2-0 shutout victory over Southern Illinois on Sunday, extending the team’s unbeaten streak to five games.
Currently, Illinois State boasts seven shutouts this season, tying them for 11th nationally. Valenti herself is ranked 13th in the nation among all goalkeepers for shutouts recorded.
