Sinner and Medvedev Advance to Beijing Final, Setting Up Championship Clash
Beijing, China – Daniil Medvedev and Jannik Sinner will contest the final of the ATP Beijing tournament after securing victories in their respective semifinals on Saturday. Medvedev overcame Learner Tien, while Sinner continued his dominance over Alex de minaur.
Medvedev, seeking his first title of a challenging season, dispatched Tien 6-3,6-3. The win marked Medvedev’s 14th victory in 21 matches against Zverev and propelled him to his fourth semifinal of the year.Tien had previously defeated Medvedev in their only prior meeting. The former world #1 appears to be regaining form, possibly fueled by his new coaching partnership with Thomas Johannson and rohan Goetzke, and demonstrated improved physical and mental preparedness.
Sinner remained in contention for the year-end world #1 ranking, though his chances are diminishing following Carlos Alcaraz’s progression to the Tokyo final. He defeated Alex de Minaur in straight sets, continuing a lopsided head-to-head record. Sinner’s 6-1, 7-5 quarterfinal win over Fabian Marozsan was his 40th tour-level victory of the season, despite missing three months of competition earlier in the year.
De Minaur had enjoyed a strong run to the semifinal, including a dominant opening-round victory over Bu Yunchaokete and a hard-fought win against Arthur Rinderknech. Though, his quarterfinal opponent, Jakub Mensik, retired after only five games.
Sinner’s record against de Minaur now stands at 10-0, having only dropped one set to the Australian in their previous encounters – back in 2020.The Italian’s powerful game has consistently overwhelmed de Minaur, and the semifinal followed that pattern.
