Xbox Cloud Gaming Sees Major Performance Boost with 1440p Upgrade,Digital Foundry Reports
SEATTLE,WA – Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming service is delivering a “dramatic improvement” after recently increasing resolution to 1440p,according to a new analysis by Digital Foundry. The upgrade addresses a key criticism of the service – lower resolution compared to competitors – and appears to be achieving extraordinary results with minimal latency impact.
While Xbox Cloud Gaming previously faced limitations in visual fidelity, the introduction of 1440p streaming has been met with positive reception from users. Digital Foundry’s testing, focused on Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, revealed a important leap in quality.
“I played Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora…for half an hour,an hour or so,and I actually went through to a particular storage game where I know there is a lot of volume streaming happening. This is a dramatic improvement,I would say, over XCloud,” stated the Digital Foundry representative. They added,”Latest time does not seem to be affected, and it was always one of the good things with a fully functional xcloud that the latency was not so bad.”
The analysis further highlighted the service’s performance relative to PlayStation’s streaming capabilities, noting considerably lower latency than PlayStation 4 streaming. “The delay was significantly lower than similar streaming on PlayStation 4, which you can just flow on a PlayStation, strangely enough,” Digital Foundry concluded. “So yes,all this looks very, very impressive.”
