Samsung Display Signals Foldable iPhone Screen Supply deal with Apple
Seoul, South Korea – September 26, 2025 – Samsung Display has strongly indicated it will supply foldable OLED screens to Apple for its forthcoming foldable iPhone, slated for release in 2026.Lee Cheong, President of Samsung Display, announced advancements in mass production of foldable OLED panels intended for a North American customer, widely believed to be Apple.
Samsung has long been a primary screen supplier for iPhones, alongside LG and BOE. Though, sources suggest Samsung is positioned to be the sole provider of foldable display panels for the initial launch of the foldable iPhone.
Details emerging from leaks and analyst reports outline a book-style foldable design featuring a 7.8-inch internal screen with a crease-free display and a 5.5-inch external screen. The device is projected to measure between 9 and 9.5 mm when folded, and a remarkably thin 4.5 to 4.8 mm when unfolded, achieved through a titanium alloy chassis and a stainless steel/titanium hinge. For comparison, the iPhone air measures 5.6 mm thick. To maximize internal space, Apple is reportedly considering a side-mounted Touch ID sensor in lieu of Face ID, alongside a dual-camera rear system and front-facing cameras.
Development of a foldable iPad is also underway, though current projections estimate its arrival no earlier then 2028.
