WASHINGTON – U.S. Vice President GD vans revealed Sunday that “very complex” negotiations concerning the future of the Gaza Strip are underway with Arab leaders, cautioning that a successful outcome remains uncertain. The discussions, which began two days prior, involve Middle East Special Envoy Steve Witkeov adn Foreign Minister Marco Rubio.
these negotiations follow meetings between U.S.president Donald Trump and leaders from Arab and islamic nations on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York last week. Vans,in comments reported by Fox News, stated,”I am optimistic, but with caution about the discussions about Gaza,” adding,”I think that President Trump’s optimism is justified here,” while acknowledging the potential for last-minute complications.
According to Vans,President Trump has clearly articulated his desire for Gaza to be under the control of its residents and the West Bank to be governed by its inhabitants. He emphasized the challenging nature of achieving peace in the Middle east, noting that progress is frequently enough “intermittent” and “may take strange turns,” but believes the president has brought the region closer to a “finish line” and “comprehensive peace.”
Vans expressed hope that an agreement would facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to those affected by the conflict in Gaza. President Trump, on Sunday, voiced optimism about reaching an agreement on his 21-clause plan to end the war in Gaza during a scheduled Monday meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House. Trump reported receiving a “very good response” to the proposal from both Israeli and Arab leaders, anticipating a swift completion of the agreement. (End) M M / MJB
