Microsoft Offers Free Security Updates to Windows 10 Users in Europe Amidst support Deadline
Brussels, Belgium – Microsoft is providing a critical lifeline to Windows 10 users within the European Economic Area (EEA), offering a year of free Extended Security Updates (ESUs). This move comes as standard support for Windows 10 officially ends on October 14th, leaving systems vulnerable to emerging security threats.
While users outside the EEA will be required to purchase ESUs or upgrade to Windows 11 to maintain security protection, those in the EEA benefit from this extended, no-cost coverage due to regulations within the European Union. This ensures a continued level of security for a significant user base during the transition period.
Maintaining Access to Updates
To receive these free updates, users must remain actively logged in with a Microsoft account. Microsoft stipulates that accounts inactive for more than 60 days will lose access to the ESUs, requiring re-registration.This requirement aims to ensure that updates are delivered to actively used devices, providing a practical window for users to plan and execute a move to Windows 11.
