Canberra Lyric Theatre Designs Released: 2,000 Seating & Accessible Features

Canberra‘s New Lyric Theater Designs Unveiled, Drawing Inspiration from Local Landscape

CANBERRA ​- Detailed designs for Canberra’s ⁤new lyric theatre have been revealed, showcasing⁤ a building ‍inspired by the region’s natural habitat and informed by extensive ⁢community consultation. The theatre, set too be built near the⁤ Canberra Theatre center, ⁢will feature a design incorporating natural forms and textures, and aims to accommodate performers, audiences, and ⁤staff effectively.

The designs were released ⁤as part of the Works Approval request ⁣lodged with the National‌ Capital Authority.⁢ ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr stated the design “reflects ⁢our landscape and celebrates First Nations’ culture.” He‍ added that the detailed plans “respond to the needs of the​ people who will watch performances, ‌the ‍performers who will take the stage, and the staff who will work ⁢in the venue, which has been guided by extensive community consultation throughout the planning and design process.”

The theatre will be located north-west ​of the current Canberra ‍Theatre Centre, bordering Northbourne Avenue​ and Vernon Circle, on the site of the existing ‌Theatre Lane car park. That car park will close ​next month⁤ to facilitate early works, with major construction anticipated to begin early next year.

Barr ⁤also noted​ the new theatre will enable Canberra to host “world-class performances.”
