Idaho Falls Schools Closed Thursday After Reported Gun Threats
IDAHO FALLS – Classes are canceled Thursday at Skyline High School, Eagle Rock Middle School, and Ethel Boyes Elementary after authorities investigated potential gun threats. The Idaho Falls School District 91 made the decision as a precaution following two separate incidents reported Wednesday.
One incident involved a student making a comment regarding a potential gun threat. School officials immediately alerted the school resource officer, and an examination determined the threat was not credible. Superintendent Karla LaOrange stated the student will face disciplinary action consistent with district policy. Separately, a rumor circulated during a school dance about a possible armed individual in a vehicle near the school, prompting an investigation by the Idaho Falls Police Department.
“Idaho Falls School District 91 takes these matters seriously.as a district, we are committed to keeping students and staff safe,” LaOrange said in a statement. “I am grateful for the fast response by Skyline High School and the Idaho Falls Police Department, and I appreciate the cooperation of our families as we work together to keep our schools safe.”
Authorities are asking anyone with information related to either incident to contact the Idaho Falls police Department at (208) 529-1200.
