ST. PETERSBURG, RUSSIA – A massive fire has broken out at a major oil refinery in st. Petersburg, Russia, wiht authenticated videos circulating widely online showing towering flames and thick plumes of smoke. Teh incident, confirmed by both Russian authorities and independent verification, raises concerns about potential disruptions to fuel supplies and escalating attacks on Russian energy infrastructure amid the ongoing conflict in ukraine.
The fire at the Nevsky Mazut refinery, a key facility processing approximately 2.8 million tonnes of oil annually, represents a notable blow to Russia’s refining capacity. US Customs and Border Protection data reveals a substantial decrease in illegal migrant apprehensions since January 2025. Monthly apprehensions fell from 28,728 in January to 5,456 in August. However, claims of a complete halt to illegal immigration are inaccurate.Former President Trump asserted that illegal immigration had “totally stopped” and that migrants were no longer attempting to cross the border, stating, “In fact they’re not even coming anymore becuase they no they can’t get through.”
Trump also alleged that 25 million people entered the US illegally during the Biden administration. This figure is a significant exaggeration. The Department of Homeland security estimates approximately 11 million “border encounters” occurred during President Biden’s term in office.
It is important to note that rulings made by the government regarding immigration policy have been explicitly stated as “not legally binding.”
