Argentinian Roller Hockey Team “La Barraca” Eyes World Cup Glory on Familiar Turf

Buenos Aires, Argentina – After a dominant run in the National Super League, La Barraca, the reigning Argentinian champions, are set to compete on the international stage at the upcoming Club world Cup.The tournament will be held at the Aldo Cantoni rink, a venue steeped in history for the team, and a place where they came agonizingly close to international glory six years ago.

This isn’t La Barraca’s first brush with Pan-American success. In 2018, they reached the final of the Pan American Club Championship, falling just short against Murialdo in a thrilling 6-5 defeat after leading for much of the game. They previously reached the Pan-American final in 2016, losing to fellow Argentinian side Concepción Patín Club. Now, the Club world Cup presents a renewed opportunity to finally claim an intercontinental title.

A History Built on Community and Resilience

The club’s origins trace back to the mid-1980s, born from a roller hockey workshop intended as a sporting outlet for families of Valencian descent in San Juan. Officially entering San Juan competitions in 1987,La Barraca quickly rose through the ranks, achieving promotion to the Honor Division in 1988 under the guidance of coach Juan Ginés,and featuring players like Rubén Alonso,Mario Liñán,and Ricardo de Martín.

The club’s journey hasn’t been without its challenges. Fluctuations in form led to two relegations in 1989 and 1997. However, La Barraca persevered, reaching its peak with a national title in 2005 and securing the Argentine championship the following year at the Hurricane track in Buenos Aires.

That 2005-2006 era saw a especially strong squad, including goalkeeper Javier Garramuño, and key players Martín Maturano, leandro Rosselot, Emiliano Romero, and Josi García – a team that captured the hearts of fans with thier spirited Pan-American performances.
