Arsenal Defender Piero Hincapié Suffers Groin Injury, Expected Short Recovery
LONDON, September 23, 2025 - Arsenal Football Club has announced that new signing Piero Hincapié has sustained a groin injury, sidelining him for thier upcoming EFL Cup match against Port Vale this Wednesday. Manager Mikel Arteta confirmed the injury during a press conference Tuesday, stating, “Piero Hincapié suffered a small injury in the groin. We have to see how it is indeed next week. I think it will be a short injury.”
Hincapié, who joined Arsenal from Bayern Leverkusen on a loan deal wiht a mandatory purchase option, has seen limited action since his arrival.He made his debut in the UEFA Champions League against Athletic Bilbao, appearing as a substitute for six minutes in the final stretch of the match.
Arsenal acquired Hincapié for a reported $7 million loan fee, with a further $53.7 million due to complete the permanent transfer. prior to joining the Gunners,the Ecuadorian international enjoyed four seasons with Bayern Leverkusen,winning the Bundesliga,german Cup,and Super Cup.
Arteta had previously cited “physical discomfort” as the reason for Hincapié’s and Martin Odegaard’s absence from the squad that drew 1-1 with Manchester City in their most recent Premier League fixture.
